School Holiday Activity - Cute Fruit Characters

What do to during the school holidays with your kids? And how to get them interested in healthy foods? Well, research tells us that children who play games with food, and help with the cooking and preparing in the kitchen, are more likely to eat healthier foods and they are more likely to take an interest in what's on their plate.

So here is a cute way to get your kids interested in healthy foods! And it'll keep them busy for hours, swapping the pieces and making funny looking characters. If you cna't get hold of the mini Mr. Potato Head(TM) pieces, then toothpicks work just as well.

Always supervise young children when doing craft activities with sharp or small objects. They may need help with inserting the pieces / toothpicks.

What you'll need:

  • A selection of firm fruit or vegetables. Apples, oranges and pears work well. Mushrooms, tomatoes, squash and zucchini work well too.

  • Mr Potato Head (TM) character pieces - available to buy online

OR

  • toothpicks

  • scissors (to cut toothpicks if they are too long)

  • small food pieces to stick on - sultanas, cranberries, almond flakes, mini cucumber slices, mushroom slices, carrot/celery sticks, Smarties (TM), etc.

And then let their imagination run wild!

Enjoy spending some quality time with your children!
